Stop allowing Queensland farmers to shoot flying foxes

In 2023, the Queensland Government committed to phasing out permits to shoot flying-foxes for crop protection, with shooting set to end on 1 July 2026. This recognised that shooting is cruel, ineffective, and does not stop ongoing crop damage.

The current government has now moved to halt that phase-out. This decision ignores strong evidence that humane, non-lethal solutions—particularly wildlife-friendly exclusion netting—protect crops more effectively while avoiding harm to native wildlife.

A disallowance motion will soon be debated in Parliament.

Take action now and call on your local MP to vote in favour of the disallowance motion, which will revoke the amendment and reinstate the planned phase-out of shooting permits.
